Spice Board of India is the government regulatory and export promotion agency for Indian spices. The Board constituted in 1987 under Spices Board Act 1986 with the structure of production/development of cardamom and export promotion of 52 spices.

Spice Board of India and its testing laboratory headquarter is in Kochi. There are regional laboratories in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Tuticorin, Kandla, and Guntur. Board has made mandatory quality testing for spices exported from India.

Brand name of Spice Board of India

Spice Board of India sold the spices under the brand ‘Flavourit’;

Rich spices like Cardamom, White pepper, Black pepper, Clove, Star anise, and Cumin are available under Flavourit.

Major Functions

  • Research, development, and regulation of domestic marketing of small and large cardamom

  • Promotion of organic production, processing, and certification of spices

  • Supplying quality evaluation services

  • Development of spices in Northeast

  • Application in the prescribed form [Form 1]

  • Self-attested copy of import-export code certificate.

  • Bank certificate in support of your financial status.

  • Self-attested GST certification certificate copy.

  • Self-attested PAN card copy

  • Self-certified, partnership deed/Memorandum and Articles of Association as the case may be.

  • Self-attested certificate issued by the directorate of industries in case of manufacturer- exporter of spices.

  • Passport size photo with white background.

Largest producer and exporter of Spices

India is the largest producer and exporter of spices in the world. The country produces 75 varieties out of 109 listed by the International Organization for Standardization and Accounts for half of the global trading spices.

In March 2020, the spice board of India had organized a National Conclave on food safety with the objective of food safety and developing immunity. The spice Board of India has started an online campaign called the Spice Train to educate Indians about the country’s rich spice heritage.
