Grow bags are bags that can be used to grow plants. Plants that don’t grow deep roots, such as herbs, potatoes, salad greens, and tomatoes, can easily grow in grow bags. If you don’t have an in-ground garden and are not in the mood to buy heavy containers then, grow bags are a perfect alternative. Plus, they come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and designs. They can also be customized to fit your preferences.

Growing Tips:

  1. Choose the right bag- Just like with pots, growing bags play an important role in the soil’s ability to retain water, remove excess water, and the movement of air in the soil. Therefore, when choosing a grow bag pay extra attention to the fabric from which they are made. Look beyond the aesthetic and consider its efficiency and usability. A good grow bad will be made from fabric that allows the free flow of air. Also, grow bags come in a variety of sizes, so make sure to keep changing the grow bag as your plant continues to grow.

  2. Frequent Watering- Plants that are grown in grow bags need to be watered more frequently. This is because grow bags tend to be very well-aerated. The free flow of air can cause the soil to dry out easily. Therefore, plants that are grown in grow bags will need to be watered more frequently than plants that are grown in a container during peak summer.

  3. Frequent fertilizing- Plants that are grown in grow bags need to be fertilized more frequently because frequent watering can cause the fertilizer to wash away. If you don’t wish to apply fertilizer regularly, then putting a slow-release fertilizer can do the trick for you as it releases nutrients over a course of time.

  4. Indoor storing tips- If you wish to use the grow bags to grow indoor plants, then ensure that the bag is placed on an adequately sized saucer to catch the water that drains from the grow bags. Grow bags tend to be well draining and can cause water damage to your furniture.

  5. Clean your grow bags between each use- In order to reuse a grow bag for a different plant, it is important that you prepare it by emptying it out completely and washing the bag with soapy water to kill bacteria and fungus. Let the bag air dry before using it again or storing it.

Advantages of Gardening in Grow Bags:

  1. Reduced risk of overwatering- Most plant owners are aware of the damage that overwatering can cause to their plants. Overwatering your plants can cause the root to rot which can make the plant susceptible to several diseases that can stunt its growth and even lead to its death. However, the risk of overwatering your plant is reduced when you grow them in grow bags. Grow bags are well-ventilated. Therefore, the roots of the plant are more aerated in comparison to traditional pots. Aerated soil also makes it easier for the plant to absorb nutrients and allows heat to escape on warm days. Grow bags allow for better drainage as well.

  1. Easy to move around- Moving around a plant that is grown in a grow bag is relatively easier than moving a potted plant. Grow bags are not just lighter but easier to pick up and handle.

  2. Formation of healthy root systems- Plants that are grown in grow bags are less likely to become root bound.

  3. Grow bags are reusable- Grow bags that are made from durable material are optimal for reusability after the vegetable or herb is completely harvested or a plant is re-potted.
