What is IIHR and What it does?

IIHR is one of the institutes of ICAR and is located in Bengaluru.

IIHR (Indian Institute of Horticultural Research), Bengaluru

IIHR stands for Indian Institute of Horticultural Research. It is a premier institute of ICAR - Indian Council of Agricultural Research. It was established in 1970 in Bengaluru.

Today, the institute has established various research stations throughout the country viz; Nagpur, Lucknow, Godhra, Ranchi, Gonnikopal, and Chettali. The main research station of IIHR is at Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru.

IIHR also features an Agriculture Technology Information Center (ATIC). This is a sole window agency that disseminates information and technologies created by the institute. The center sells the various technological products and publications generated by the institute directly to the farmers and general public.

Staff and Scientists

As of February 2020, IIHR has a total staff strength of 619 people, including 150 scientists, 92 administrative staff members, 218 technical staff members, and 159 supporting staff members.

The current Director of IIHR is Dr. M. R. Dinesh.
