Artificial Intelligence & IoT Incorporated in Livestock Farming and Cattle Trading in India

MoooFarm reared 18 crores in seed funding in January this year. The government also introduced apps such as e-Gopala in August 2020 to assist farmers in selecting higher livestock and boosting dairy output.

According to a partner at Deloitte India, Anand Ramanathan, India is one of the world's largest producers of milk and dairy products. Nonetheless, regardless of its size, India's dairy industry remains scattered. He also added that farmers can physically verify cattle breeds and milk production claims using an online marketplace.

Developing a digital marketplace isn't the end of technology implementation for startup companies. Each cattle entry on MoooFarm's platform is verified. Mooofarm began with a classifieds model, in which farmers can publish a commercial and sell livestock. Now it has switched to an inventory system, acquiring cattle through a combination of human technology ad intervention. 

MoooFarm is testing video and picture machine learning (ML) analysis to predict which livestock to purchase and which to avoid. Before the pandemic, the company collaborated with machine learning to recognize cows.

It had developed an automated algorithm that could distinguish between cows using cellphone cameras.  The project has been temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, but it has since resumed. It is currently under development.

Kochi-based Brainwired has created a cattle health tracking and monitoring mechanism that employs IoT technologies ear labels to monitor livestock vitals and the reproductive cycle. The data is then processed by a Learning algorithm, which detects and alerts farmers to ailments and pregnancy.

Chitale Dairy, centered in Maharashtra, utilizes (RFID) Radio Frequency Identification labels to recognize hundreds of animals on its various farms. In addition, it has migrated its entire software stack to the cloud. It has increased access to real-time data on animals, their health, and milk processing plants.

Hydrogreens Agri Solutions, Bengaluru employs IoT sensors to check the temperature and humidity levels in the warehouses, & regulate water and airflow to provide high-quality fodder for the farmers. Vasanth Madhav Kamath, founder of Hydrogreens said, “Farmers have increased yield by 2-3 liters using green fodder”.
