GADVASU Celebrates National Milk Day with Series of Talks and Events

College of Dairy Science and Technology (CODST), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana celebrated National Milk Day on 26th November 2021; the centenary of the birth of Dr. Verghese Kurien, 'Father of White Revolution in India’. 

Event Theme: Milk and Milk Products for Healthy & Happy India

The theme of the event was “Milk and milk products for healthy and happy India”. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU was the chief guest on this occasion. Dr. Singh applauded the initiative taken by the college for creating awareness among the consumers about the quality and nutritive value of the milk. He also appreciated the involvement of the students of the college in the preparation and sale of quality milk products. This initiative will inculcate entrepreneurial qualities in them.

Dr. Ramneek, Dean, CODST told that the college is dedicated to producing trained dairy graduates and postgraduates. The Experimental Dairy Plant (EDP) of the college is committed to supplying fresh and quality milk and milk products to consumers. 

Series of Awareness Talks on “Milk for Young India”

In the context of national milk day, a series of awareness talks on ‘milk for young India’ at various schools of Ludhiana was organized from 22nd to 24th November. Two days free ‘milk adulteration testing camp’ was also organized from 25th to 26th November where milk samples brought by the consumers were tested.

All the milk samples were brought by the consumers who purchase milk from the unorganized sectors i.e. milk vendors. Further, the main attraction of the event was the Ice cream and Pizza Festival organized by the students of the college today on 26th November. These products were prepared by the students of the college from the milk produced at GADVASU dairy farm. Students from Police DAV Public School, Ludhiana visited the festival and relished the products prepared and sold by the students. 

They also visited the Experimental Dairy Plant of the college and saw various operations of the plant. Dr. Ramneek praised the scientists and students of the college for their dedication and hard work in organizing the various events in such a structured and planned way. All Deans, Directors, faculty, staff members, and students were present at the Ice cream and Pizza Festival venue to grace the occasion.
