GADVASU Organizes International e-Training Course on Biotechnological Approaches

College of Animal Biotechnology (COABT), GADVASU conducted 12 days training course on ‘Biotechnological Approaches in Animal Research & Disease Diagnosis’.

Considering the need and importance of biotechnology in human and animal lives, College of Animal Biotechnology (COABT), GADVASU conducted 12 days training course on ‘Biotechnological Approaches in Animal Research & Disease Diagnosis’.

The objective of training was to provide skill-based learning of biotechnological techniques to post-graduate students, young faculty & professionals of veterinary and animal sciences. Strategies of vaccine development & production of rapid diagnostic assays were discussed during the meeting.   

Dean of the college and course director, Dr Yashpal S Malik inaugurated the training and briefed the importance of this training course. He said growing demand for food production and fighting deadly diseases like Coronavirus, are the need of the hour to have biotechnological interventions. He underlined how investigators have developed Covid-19 vaccine within record time of just 11 months which generally requires a decade of time.

In the inaugural lecture, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (Meerut), Dr. Gaya Prasad showed how biotechnology is affecting animal research. The training course consisted of

Experts from International institutions like USDA, University of Florida, University of Vermont and reputed institutions such as IITs, NITs, NIAB, IVRI and GADVASU were part of the training session. Total 36 lectures were delivered and 127 participants received online training for 12 days.

Rapidly growing techniques of molecular biology that can make significant contribution to the scientific communities & societies includes CRISPR-Cas, peptide-based diagnostics, aptamer-based sensors, rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) for viral and bacterial diseases & concept of viral vectored vaccine were also told to the participants.

Dr. Malik said that such trainings would be conducted more in futures for the students and young faculties to cater the needs of their biotechnological knowledge.
