GADVASU Organizes Workshop On “Pig Diseases and Health Management”

In his presentation on "Zoonoses & Biosecurity Importance in Piggery," Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director, Centre of One Health, GADVASU, underlined the significance of implementing different biosecurity measures to eradicate various health issues and zoonoses in the piggery sector.

College of Animal Biotechnology along with the Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) organized a workshop on “Pig diseases and health management” to create awareness among progressive pig farmers of Punjab.

Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, Ludhiana highlighted the purpose behind organizing such an interactive workshop for the pig farmers of the state. Lectures were delivered by Dr. Malik, Drs. Satparkash Singh, Inderpal Kaur, Anuradha Sharma, and Parminder Kaur on “Emerging Health Issues in Pigs”. Various infectious diseases, especially in the context of emerging African swine fever in the neighboring Uttarakhand state.

In his presentation on "Zoonoses & Biosecurity Importance in Piggery," Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director, Centre of One Health, GADVASU, underlined the significance of implementing different biosecurity measures to eradicate various health issues and zoonoses in the piggery sector.

Two booklets on infectious diseases were released by Dr. Prakash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, and Sh. Surinder Singh Dhindsa, Member, Board of Management of the university. Dr. Brar offered his concluding remarks in the workshop. He stressed organizing more such kind of valuable workshops in the future for the betterment of the farming community. He assured the farmers that the University is always putting its best for creating mass awareness.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Adarsh Mishra, and Dr. Deepali Kalambhe. The President, Sh. Harwinder Singh and General Secretary, Sh. Surinder Khullar of Pig Farmers’ Welfare Association thanked the organizers for organizing such a useful workshop.

Dr. Malik conveyed his sincere gratitude to Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, for providing the opportunity for organizing such an interactive workshop. He also thanked Dr. JPS Gill, Director of Research, GADVASU, and Director of Extension Education, Dr. Prakash Singh Brar for the encouragement.
