To give a major boost to fish farming and double farmers’ income, State Government of Haryana has planned to set up 2000 fish farms across the State. Jai Parkash Dalal, Haryana Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Fisheries Minister said this while presiding over a meeting of officials of the Fisheries Department.

During the meeting, the Agriculture Minister evaluated the schemes being run by the department and asked the officials to make an action plan for the new financial year.

While directing the officers, Dalal said that there are huge opportunities for fish farming in the state as geographically, saltwater and waterlogged areas are available in Haryana thus these areas must be used for fish farming.

The Agriculture Minister also said that by promoting fisheries in Haryana, the unemployed youth will get ample employment opportunities. He said that besides preparing fish farms, processing units must also be set for storage & processing facilities as per the exportation standards. In addition, farmers must be provided with the facility of refrigerated vans so that they can take their produce from farms to the big fish markets.

Dalal while directing the officials said that along with soil testing laboratories that have been set up in the Mandis, there must be water testing labs to check the quality of water. He added that a documentary must be made on the success stories of the farmers doing fish farming so that the youth can be motivated and made aware of the benefits of doing it.
