Nutrient-rich layer feed for chicken raised by household & farms at reasonable price will soon be available in the market. The state government-owned livestock feed producer, Kerala Feeds Limited (KFL) is all set to sell its nutrient-rich layer feed for chicken raised by farms as well as households.
The layer feed that is made of healthy ingredients, is meant for consumption by different country breeds of chicken, except broiler chicken, which is bred and raised specifically for meat production.
The layer feed, being disclosed as part of product diversification of Kerala Feeds Limited, will hit the market by the mid of December, i.e. next month. It will also address the long-felt absence of chicken feed in the market for country breeds that is a important component in increasing the domestic egg production.
Chairman of KFL, K S Indusekharan Nair said, “The launch of the product meets our company's commitment to back the state government’s policy of supporting more than a million dairy farmers & household chicken raisers in Kerala”.
B. Sreekumar, Managing Director of KFL said that “We will market the best quality poultry feed at a reasonable price. Like our previous products, we are confident of maintaining high quality for this one as well.”
A variety of KFL products are available all over Kerala, despite a shortage of high-priced raw materials. He said that almost 99% of the raw material required for feed production is sourced from other States.
He further said a sharp increase in demand for raw material for fodder in northern states has posed some problems for Kerala Feeds Limited adding that a new plant at Thodupuzha will be commissioned soon to raise KFL’s total production.
Kerala Feeds Limited has accrued a loss of Rs 123 crore from 2011 till date. The company has 5 manufacturing units in the state.
