Fishlizer: An organic Fish Manure

The Ernakulam Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) has produced organic fish manure, which will be marketed as 'Fishlizer.' Women entrepreneurs that have been trained by the KVK produce the fish manure.

Fishlizer contains all of the nutrients involved in plant development. The amino acids found in marine fish would help plants flower and set fruit, resulting in increased yield.

Housewives Sini Sha from Cherai and Ivy Jose from Munambam, according to a KVK communication, have set up their start-ups Lachoos Malsyavalam and Ivees Agro Hub using the KVK's technology for creating organic manure from fish waste.

The 'Fishlizer initiative is the result of a series of training programs offered by the KVK with the goal of encouraging new businesses to produce manure on a commercial basis.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, which is part of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), supplies technology for manure production and commercialization, according to Shinoj Subramanian, the head of the KVK. "To assure the quality of the product, the KVK team will monitor the start-up units on a regular basis," he stated.

The organic manure made from fish waste was produced in conjunction with the Swachh Bharat campaign of the Indian government. Initially, the women will sell the product by postal and online delivery.
