Making Piggery as a Profitable and Sustainable Venture for Farming Community

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying visited the ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani in Guwahati. The Minister applauded the Institutional activities and the Institute’s achievements. Dr. Balyan visited the Farm Complex and R&D Pork Processing Plant of the Institute. During his interaction with the Institute’s scientists, he emphasized on the importance of pig breeding for the production of quality germplasm and subsequent dissemination to the field for the farmers’ and entrepreneurs’ benefits. The Minister stated about the urgent need for importing the exotic germplasm to the Institute to enhance the pigs’ productive and reproductive performances.

The Minister applauded the Institutional activities and the Institute’s achievements. Dr. Balyan visited the Farm Complex and R&D Pork Processing Plant of the Institute. During his interaction with the Institute’s scientists, he emphasized on the importance of pig breeding for the production of quality germplasm and subsequent dissemination to the field for the farmers’ and entrepreneurs’ benefits. The Minister stated about the urgent need for importing the exotic germplasm to the Institute to enhance the pigs’ productive and reproductive performances.

Dr. Balyan opined for the nutrition’s importance in pig farming. He urged for taking up the research projects in order to increase the feed efficiency and use of alternate feed resources. The Minister accentuated on the fact that such initiative will not only reduce the feed cost, but also make piggery as a profitable and sustainable venture to the farming community.

Earlier, Dr. Swaraj Rajkhowa, Director (Acting), ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig welcomed the Minister and other dignitaries.

The Scientists, Technical and Administrative Staff of the Institute participated in the programme.
