Need to Focus on Important Finfish Species like Grey Mullets, Red Snapper: Dr. Mohapatra

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited the Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture in Chennai. During his visit, Dr. Mohapatra interacted with Institute’s scientists about the newer developments in the research areas in the Institute.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited the Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture in Chennai. During his visit, Dr. Mohapatra interacted with Institute’s scientists about the newer developments in the research areas in the Institute.

The Director General urged for giving special focus on the important finfish species, like Grey Mullets and Red Snapper. He also applauded the work on P. indicus genomics. He suggested for the application of bioinformatics for the better understanding of the functional aspects and publishing the results in journals with high impact factor. Dr. Mohapatra urged the Institute to continuously consult with the stakeholders and Ministry through ICAR.

Dr. Mohapatra commended the Institute’s contribution in developing the feeds for aquaculture species. He advised for continued engagement with the private sector in adopting indigenous feed technologies.

He also urged for persistent engagement with the aqua farmers and critical analyses of the impact of ICAR-CIBA’s technologies for better visibility. Stressing upon the need of comprehensive database on brackishwater aquaculture sector, Dr. Mohapatra opined for taking the Institute’s technologies to the end-users using all the communication channels including social media, for better diffusion and wider adoption.

Dr. S.V. Alavandi, Director, ICAR-CIBA was also present during the occasion.
