Pig Farming: GADVASU Organizes Training for Livestock Farmers
Under the aegis of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav - 75 years of India’s independence', Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized one week training programme on Pig Farming for imparting the knowledge to pig entrepreneurs so as to ease their start-ups.
Under the aegis of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav - 75 years of India’s independence', Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized one week training programme on Pig Farming for imparting the knowledge to pig entrepreneurs so as to ease their start-ups.
This training programme was coordinated by Dr. Ravdeep Singh & Dr. Amandeep Singh. A total of 11 trainees participated in this training programme. The trainees were provided with the latest knowledge about various breeds, breeding, management, shed design, weather management, vaccination protocols, diseases and their preventive measures, value addition of meat, and economics of pig farming, etc.
Pig Farming to gain Momentum
Practical training on handling of the pigs, measuring their body temperature, signs of healthy animals, value addition of pork, etc. was also provided. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, The Director Extension Education informed that pig farming is a booming profession and this is gaining momentum in the state as young farmers and farm women are showing keen interest in pig farming. He further emphasized that the value addition of pig meat can enhance income of the farmers.
GADVASU Provides Books to Farmers
He further added that on the eve of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, GADVASU is providing various books, magazines and Journals to farmers at 20% concession during the month of August, 2021. The livestock farmers can contact Farmer Information Centre of Veterinary University for further information.
Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Head, Department of Veterinary Extension Education said that the Veterinary University is disseminating knowledge on all aspects of livestock farming in the form of printed books, bulletins, monthly magazine and with the help of Mobile Apps, which can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
He also declared that more such trainings for livestock farmers will be organized in the coming months.
