Subsidies in Fisheries sector! Hybrid Solar Wind Energy Generator: Building Climate Change Resilient Fisheries Sector

With the increase in Green House Gas (GHGs) emissions, there has been an increase in the temperature of earth surface, leading to climate change. Thus, there is a need to chalk out plans for building resilient food systems. In fisheries, HSD oil is used as fuel in fishing vessels, for post-harvest processing, cold-chain maintenance, etc. Further, electricity from thermal power plants is required for operating modern aquaculture systems.

Keeping these things in mind, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, initiated a scheme to provide financial assistance for promoting non-conventional energy (NCE) source for eco-friendly practices under the scheme “Blue Revolution: Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries”.

Hybrid Solar Wind Energy Generator –

The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) provides financial assistance for installing ‘Hybrid Solar Wind Energy Generator’. It is designed for on and off grid installations at inland, on-shore and off-shore locations.

The Hybrid generator can be installed to provide alternate source of energy for operating any fisheries related unit located inland or along the coast.

Advantages:

  1. Reduces dependence on fossil fuels
  2. Environment friendly technology
  3. 24-hour power supply facility
  4. Help in illuminating cage cultures
  5. Can operate some small scale ice-plants in remote areas
  6. Can help in running pumps, aerators, filters
