Vet Varsity Dean Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik Honored with National Fellowship

Prof (Dr) Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Fellow Award’ of the Biotech Research Society, India (BRSI) for his contributions and highly significant achievements in the field of Animal Biotechnology including development of state-of-art diagnostics for several pathogens affecting livestock and poultry.

Prof (Dr) Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Fellow Award’ of the Biotech Research Society, India (BRSI) for his contributions and highly significant achievements in the field of Animal Biotechnology including development of state-of-art diagnostics for several pathogens affecting livestock and poultry.

Prof Malik has developed several technologies and diagnostic kits and has two National patents to his credit. His contribution on zoonotic pathogens affecting both humans and animals was judged for this prestigious award. Prof Malik earlier served as ICAR-National Fellow at the premier veterinary Institute of the country-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar India.

He acquired advanced trainings in Molecular Virology at University of Minnesota, USA, University of Ottawa, Canada, and Wuhan Institute of Virology, China. Prof Malik is a member of International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) on Birnaviridae and Picobirnaviridae study group and a managing committee member of World Society for Virology (USA). Prof Malik represented India in scientific arena at The United States of America, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Belarus, Belgium, Sweden, and People’s Republic of China.

Pertinent to mention that Prof Malik has been honoured with ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award; distinguished Associateship of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and National Academy of Veterinary Sciences. He has authored 7 books and published around 227 scientific research articles in peer reviewed journals of high impact factor.

At the College of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU Prof Malik is leading the team of experts in the area of animal genomics, molecular diagnostics and vaccinology where advance research facilitating the livestock sector is going on.

The society honouring Prof Malik, BRSI, is an elite organization having membership of 3700 members. The Society provided unifying platform for scientific advancement and collaboration. BRSI is dedicated to provide excellence and competence in the field of biotechnology for the benefit of mankind.

Dr Malik will be conferred this award on 4th April, 2021 at the opening session of XVII BRSI Convention of Society being organized as International Conference on Biotechnology for Sustainable Agriculture, Health and Environment.
