Vocational Training program on “PROFITABLE DAIRY FARMING”

Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya Distt. Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar organized a vocational training course on “Profitable Dairy Farming” from 15th – 29th May, 2018 for farmers, farm women and rural youth. Candidates from different villages of the district have attended this course.

Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya Distt. Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar organized a vocational training course on “Profitable Dairy Farming” from 15th – 29th May, 2018 for farmers, farm women and rural youth. Candidates from different villages of the district have attended this course.

In this training program experts delivered lectures as well as hands-on training covering all important aspects of dairy farming. In this training programme Dr. Manoj Sharma, Associate Director (Training) Education interacted with the trainees and enlightened them about huge scope of dairy sector in India as well as in Punjab and also told the importance of nutrition in dairy animals during milking, dry and transition period.

Dr. Sharma also spread light on various milking systems and principles of clean milk production, judging or evaluation of animal for purchase and assessment of age of dairy animals. During this training programme Dr. Tejbeer Singh, Assistant Prof. (Animal Science) discussed about the care and management of calves and heifers, care during adverse weather conditions, challenges of dairy farming in kandi area. He also emphasized on various reproductive and metabolic disorders i.e. repeat breeding, retention of placenta, in breeding, brucellosis, FMD, HS, milk fever and control of mastitis. Dr. Gurinder Singh, Demonstrator (Animal Science) told the trainees about the importance of dairy farming, housing/shed, different groups of animals at various age groups (calves, heifers and milch animals). He also discussed about necessity of hooves and lameness and control of internal and external parasites.

On this occasion Sh. Davinder Singh, Deputy Director, Dairy Development discussed about various promotional, insurance and welfare schemes for dairy farmers run by Punjab Dairy Development Board and Animal Husbandry Deptt. Punjab. Dr. Shikha Bathla, Assistant Professor (Home Science) delivered lecture on value addition to milk, commercial production of milk products and marketing and Mrs. Renu Bala (Demonstrator) discussed about the importance of milk in daily diet. In the end of the training programme Dr. Sharma thanked the trainees for their participation and encouraged the farmers to learn marketing skills along with production.
