Population

The word “population” means; all the inhabitants of a particular place or a particular group or type of people living in a place, which beautifully brings us all under one big Umbrella!

Every year on 11th July we celebrate the World Population Day to raise awareness of global population issues.

History

This day was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989, inspired by the Public Interest in Five Billion Day on July 11th 1987, the approximate date on which world population reached 5 million people.

What is the theme of World Population Day 2022

The theme of this year’s world population day is “A world of 8 billion towards a resilient future for all- Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all'.

The objective behind this theme and day is to educate people and talk about the fast growing population, importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, pregnancy related illness, reproductive health services & human rights. These are the issues we still have to work on, with patience and unity.

With the world population increasing annually by 100 million approximately every 14th month, it becomes necessary for us to look at every aspect of human existence, be it good or bad.

Since the middle of the 20th century, the world has experienced unmatched population growth with it being tripled in size between 1950 & 2020. Reaching a peak between 1965 & 1970. The life span of adults in the developed world has increased since the middle of the 20th century and the number of people reaching the age of 100 years has never been greater than it is today.

Projections by the United Nations assume a continuing gradual decrease in age specific mortality rates.

With more people comes more problems but simultaneously comes more hands to help each other, more brains to find solutions and more legs to walk each other home!

This World Population Day let’s take a pledge to treat each other with kindness, dignity and love unanimously.
