In today's time, when people are leaving the villages and moving towards the cities only to adopt a fast, unbalanced life to earn money; there are some people who are leaving their high paying jobs in the city and adopting agriculture as their means of livelihood & are earning good profits by doing farming in new ways.

Now that the year 2021 is coming to an end, we have brought the stories of 5 such farmers of this year who are an inspiration to thousands like me & you

Sumer Singh, Haryana

Sumer Singh, a progressive farmer from Dhani Mahu in Bhiwani in Haryana, started farming from 1999. Like other farmers, Sumer Singh also used chemical fertilizers, pesticides, etc. in the fields earlier. But by doing organic farming for the last six years, today he is not only eating and earning well himself but is also inspiring other farmers.

Sumer Singh is cultivating wheat, gram, pulses and mustard in an organic way in his 14 acres of land. He started onion cultivation on his one acre land with organic mulching. Along with this, he also invented a unique and economical way of storing onions. Usually, when onions are stuffed in sacks, many onions get pressed down and spoil due to heat.

Sanjeev Singh, Punjab

Sanjeev Singh, 54, a resident of Tanda village in Punjab has been Practicing Mushroom Farming since 1992 and the people of the area call him the 'Mushroom King'. At the age of 25, he started growing mushrooms along with general farming and today he is known for his work across the country.

In the year 2008, he also set up a laboratory for making mushroom seeds and started selling the seeds. Today Sanjeev's mushroom production is up to seven quintals per day. Their seeds and other products also go to Jammu, Jalandhar, Haryana, Himachal and other states. At present, Sanjeev's annual earnings are around Rs 1.25 crore. In the year 2015, he was honored by the state government for his progressive farming methods.

Kishan Suman, Rajasthan

Kishan Suman, a farmer from Rajasthan and Sankalp Singh Parihar, a farmer from Madhya Pradesh, are growing the world's most expensive mangoes. This variety of mango sells up to Rs 2.7 lakh per kg. Kishan has 2 acres of land. He came to know about this variety of mango from YouTube and was very impressed by it.

Jitendra Chaudhary, Uttar Pradesh

Jitendra Choudhary, a resident of Khurampur village in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), is growing pearls on a commercial scale in his own home. Jitendra, who has a Masters in Computer Application, belongs to a farmer family. In the desire to do something different, he started pearl farming. In the year 2009, he started pearl farming with an investment of 20 thousand rupees.

Jitendra did some online research and then registered for a course at the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Odisha, to understand the process better. Jitendra has got success up to 95% in pearl farming and today he is also earning good profit from it.

Zakir Mulla and Shamshad Zakir Hussain Mulla, Gujarat

Farmers living in Navsari, Gujarat, Zakir Mulla and his wife Shamshad Zakir Hussain Mulla made more than 25 thousand rupees per month by making gulkand, rose water and 'face packs' to apply on the face from roses by organic means.

Zakir and Shamshad started by buying 1000 indigenous varieties of roses and growing them on their own land. Today he packs his gulkand under the brand name of 'Organic Shama Gulkand' and delivers it to Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Their Gulkand is sold for Rs 400 per kg.

He has also planted aloe vera and other medicinal plants in the empty space between the rose plants. Next, he plans to make natural hair oils.
