History of National Youth Day
On January 12, National Youth Day is observed to recognize Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary. Since 1985, Vivekananda's teachings have been honored and recognized on Swamiji's birth anniversary, which the Indian government designated as National Youth Day in 1984. About Swami Vivekananda's life
Swami Vivekananda was motivated by his mother's devoutness as a housewife and his father's logical reasoning as a lawyer at the Calcutta High Court when he was a little boy. He was born in Calcutta as Narendranath Datta into a Bengali family. Since his early years, they have all influenced how he thinks and shaped his personality. In 1984, he received his degree from Scottish Church College.
In the meanwhile, he encountered Ramakrishna and joined his discipleship, which ultimately transformed his life. In 1988, he adopted the Hindu monk's nomadic lifestyle and became Parivrajaka. Later, he gave several talks in the West on Hinduism and Indian philosophy.
