Agri startups are creating waves in the Indian market! These startups are working relentlessly towards providing information, techniques and efficiencies to the farmers.

According to a 2019 NASSCOM report, India is home to more than 450 agritech startups, growing at a rate of 25% year-on-year.

Just like any other sector, start-ups in the agriculture sector are also coming up with their innovations as an aid for the stressed farmers and the industry. In the past few years, many agri startups have stepped in the sector but today we will talk about a few that are revolutionizing the industry.

Best and potential upcoming agri- startups in India

Ninjacart

Founded in 2015, by Thirukumaran Nagarajan, Kartheeswaran K K, Ashutosh Vikram, Sharath Loganathan, Sachin Jose and Vasudevan Chinnathambi, Ninjacart is one of the leading supply chain company of the fresh produce.

It connects food products directly to retailers, and restaurants and provides service through in-house applications. Currently, their supply chain is equipped to move 1400 tonnes of perishables from farms to businesses, every day, in less than 12 hours.

Ninjacart’s mission is to build India's most efficient and largest supply chain platform and improve the lives of producers, businesses, and consumers in a meaningful manner. The company has investors including Walmart, Flipkart, Tiger Global, Accel, Syngenta Group Ventures, and Mistletoe to name a few.

Waycool

WayCool is one of India's fastest-growing Agri-Tech companies, driving social impact while transforming India's food economy. Founded in July 2015 by Kartik Jayaraman and Sanjay Desari.

Having 85,000+ farmers and connecting from 50 regions of India, Waycool looks into product sourcing, food processing, branding and marketing, last-mile distribution, and farm inputs. Their mission is to build an efficient, impactful, and sustainable platform that handles 1% of the entire world’s food.

DeHaat

DeHaat is one of the fastest-growing start-ups in India. It seeks into providing end to end solutions and services to the farming community through AI-enabled technologies. Founded by alumni from IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad and other institutes it is now one of the fully funded startups.

It is now operated from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal with 1 million and above farmers in their service network. Their investors include Sofina, Sequoia, Omnivore and Prosus.

Vegrow

Vegrow is an agri-startup dealing with the fresh vegetable and fruit supply in relation with farmers and selling through organized demand. Their mission is to build worlds biggest asset. Founded by Praneeth Kumar, Shobhit Jain, Mrudhukar Batchu and Kiran Naik in the year 2020.

Vegrow is expanding a community advisory network well into tier 3 cities and towns to bring the power of the internet to farmers in more than 400 production pockets around the country. It processes more than 200 tonnes of fruits daily and has grown sales 15 times in the 12 months to July, with gross margins of about 20 percent, according to its release.

Otipy

Founded by Varun Khurana in 2020, Otipy works by helping farmers to sell off their food products directly to the consumers within 12 hours. Its mission is to have a positive impact on the changes in the lives of people associated with the farming community by not just handling fresh produce but also including groceries, bakery products, dairy goods, home care and many more items.

Otipy is currently operating from Haryana, UP, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. The company has investors like WestBridge Capitals, Pravega Ventures, Factor e Ventures, SIG Venture Capital, Inflection point Ventures and Omidyar Network India.

Besides these, there are many other startups that are trying to bring a change, not to people's lives but also to the Indian economy.
