108.85 lakh tons of Sugar Produced till 15 January 2020

Around 440 sugar mills were in operation in India as on 15 January 2020 and they have produced 108.85 lakh tons of sugar in comparison to 147.40 lakh tons produced by 511 sugar mills in the same period last year. This is 38.55 lakh tons lower if we compare to last season’s output for the corresponding period.

Around 440 sugar mills were in operation in India as on 15 January 2020 and they have produced 108.85 lakh tons of sugar in comparison to 147.40 lakh tons produced by 511 sugar mills in the same period last year.  This is 38.55 lakh tons lower if we compare to last season’s output for the corresponding period.

In Maharashtra, 139 sugar mills, which are in operation, have produced 25.51 lakh tons till 15 Jan 2020, as against 189 sugar mills that had produced 57.25 lakh tons last year in the same period. According to reports of Commissioner (Sugar), Maharashtra, 3 sugar mills, one each in Aurangabad, Ahmednagar and Beed Districts have f their operations because of non-availability of labour for harvesting & less availability of sugarcane.

In UP, 119 sugar mills have produced 43.78 lakh tons till 15 Jan 2020, with an average recovery of 10.83 percent.   In the last 2018-19 SS, 117 sugar mills were in operation on 15 Jan 2019 & they had produced 41.93 lakh tons of sugar with an average recovery of 10.97 percent.

In Karnataka, 63 sugar mills are in operation and they have produced 21.90 lakh tons of sugar, in comparison to 26.76 lakh tons produced by 65 sugar mills in 2018-19 SS.

In Gujarat, 15 sugar mills are operating for 2019-20 SS and have produced 3.72 lakh tons of sugar till 15 Jan 2020.  In 2018-19 SS, 16 sugar mills were in operation who had produced 5.42 lakh tons of sugar till that date.

In Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, 17 sugar mills are in operation and they have produced 1.85 lakh tons of sugar that is about 1 lakh tons less than the sugar produced by 24 mills in 2018-19 SS.

In Tamil Nadu, 17 sugar mills are in operation in comparison to 28 mills that operated as on 15 Jan 2019.  They have produced about 1.50 lakh tons of sugar till 15 Jan 2020 as against 2.29 lakh tons produced previous year on the corresponding date.

Mills in Bihar have produced 3.30 lakh tons, Haryana 2.00 lakh tons, Punjab 2.05 lakh tons, Uttarakhand 1.52 lakh tons, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh 1.63 lakh tons, till 15 Jan 2020.
