Herbal Tea Made from Drumstick, Jackfruit, Guava Leaves

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Pathanamthitta has introduced herbal tea bags from the unusual fruits. Considering human health, the KVKs are also coming forward with the launch of new products as Herbal Tea. By incorporating the use of these herbal teas in daily life, one can get rid of many big diseases and disorders.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Pathanamthitta has introduced herbal tea bags from the unusual fruits. Considering human health, the KVKs are also coming forward with the launch of new products as Herbal Tea.  By incorporating the use of these herbal teas in daily life, one can get rid of many big diseases and disorders.

As we know that tea is one of the most commonly found beverage in any Indian house. Be it any age group, tea is one of the favourite drinks in almost every houses of the country. But, the intake of excessive tea may be dangerous for a person’s health as it contains caffeine.

So, in order to enable people enjoy the sip of tea, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pathanamthitta has selected seven (for an end-to-end usage for the week) seasonal leaves (drumstick, jackfruit, guava, all spice, cinnamon, curry leaves and rosella) and has come up with the herbal teabags. For the better nutrient, colour and flavour retention, the production process comprises collecting, sorting disinfection and dehydration with the help of hot air oven at 50-55oC. A grinding step is also required for producing the teabags. Better dried (<7% moisture) and stored herbal powders will provide about 125 days shelf life, even without adding any food additives or preservatives.

Being prepared from the natural ingredients, these herbal teas are a perfect alternative to your daily sugary and caffeinated drinks. A bigger upbeat from the consumers hints the wider possibility in employing dehydration of locally available, nutritious seasonal leaves for income generation as well for their judicious incorporation in our daily diets.
