Maharashtra unwilling to crush their sugarcanes early

Sugar mills in Maharashtra are unlikely to start operation from early October as suggested and advised by the government and industry few weeks back. Sugarcane is generally crushed by the end of second week of October. But Government and the industries this time had adviced early crushing of sugarcane, as early by October first week amidst the festive season. For a smooth supply of sugar during the festive season, Govt insisted early crushing to maintain sufficient supply and anticipating no inflation in the sugarcane price. However, the Maharashtrian regions of Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur have showed their disagreement to this. These regions are stated to receive spells of heavy rainfall during early October, which makes the harvest difficult on the wet fields. Bumper harvest and sufficient supply in the market this year has confided for a steady sugar market . Above this, there are no import requirements and such notifications from govt. as of now. Indian Sugar Mills Association have anticipated price rise in the sugar if the sugarcanes would not be crushed by October first week due to crunch of supply in the market.
