Special Arrangements Made for Farmers to Sell Surplus Potatoes
The government of West Bengal is making special arrangements to enable growers sell the surplus potatoes harvested this year to the administration and cold storage owners to store it. In this regard, the government officials held a meeting with officials of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC).
The government of West Bengal is making special arrangements to enable growers sell the surplus potatoes harvested this year to the administration and cold storage owners to store it. In this regard, the government officials held a meeting with officials of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC).
The government will help owners of cold storage to open accounts in cooperative banks through which they will be able to take loans at easy rates to finance the cost of keeping or preserving the potatoes.
Growers who want to sell their produce to the government will have to get themselves enrolled at the local BDO office and from there the details will be sent to the cold storages.
Previously, the government had been announced that starting from 1st March, it would purchase the surplus yield from farmers of the state at the rate of Rs 5.5 / kilogram. The process would go on till 17th March in the districts of south Bengal and it will continue till 24th March in north Bengal.
