A specialty tea from the Dibrugarh district of Assam was auctioned for 99,999 per kg on Monday, setting a new high price for the state for the second time in two months, according to authorities.

He stated that AFT Techno Trade's 'Golden Pearl' tea was auctioned off at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).

GTAC Secretary Priyanuz Dutta told PTI that "Assam Tea Traders purchased one kg of the specialty tea for 99,999."

According to Tea Association of India's Assam unit Secretary Dipanjol Deka, the handcrafted delicate type of tea was grown in Nahorchukbari in Lahowal, near the Dibrugarh airport.

"At the auction, the rare type was presented in sale number 7 and lot number 5001 of the day," he explained.

On December 14, last year, 'Manohari Gold' from the Manohari tea plantation was auctioned at the GTAC for 99,999 per kg.

According to the official, this was the highest amount paid at a tea auction in the country.

Separate auctions in August 2021 sold 'Golden Needle' from Donyi Polo Tea Estate in Arunachal Pradesh and 'Golden Butterfly' from Dikom Tea Garden in Assam for 75,000 per kg.

'Manohari Gold Tea' was sold at the GTAC in July 2019 for 50,000 per kg, setting a new auction record at the moment.

About Manohari Gold Tea

Manohari Gold tea is the most costly tea ever sold in an Indian tea auction, costing more than 1.5 times the price of a kilo of silver.

Of course, we've all heard of specialty teas that sell for a lot of money at auctions. These are rarely found on store shelves, and they occasionally – just occasionally – cause a wave that reaches well beyond the limited circle of tea industry watchers and experts.

The Manohari Gold tea sold for a record price of Rs 99,999 per kilogram at the Guwahati tea auction earlier this week, the highest price ever paid for a tea in Indian tea auctions.
