Government of Himachal Pradesh had a scheme to make available anti-hail nets to the State farmers indulged in the horticulture sector. The farmers of this sector could avail subsidies to the tune of 80% for installing hail nets for an area measuring 5,000 sq mts.

This scheme was made available at a time when farmers involved in cultivating crops like cabbage, cauliflower, peas and tomatoes were experiencing losses due to hailstorms. To avail the benefit of this State scheme, the farmers are required to apply to the State horticulture department along with documents related to their Aadhaar card and land. Financial assistance is then granted subject to the availability of funds.

So far 10-12 farmers are only known to have received the benefits of the scheme in the horticulture sector. Nevertheless, farmers are advised to first attain the necessary scheme approval for financial assistance prior to purchase of the hail nets in case totally dependent on the financial assistance applied for.

Now, on World Water Day 2021, i.e. March 22nd, the State Government of Himachal Pradesh has extended the scheme to the farmers involved in agriculture sector too. This will help in helping farmers involved both in the field of agriculture & horticulture crop production.
