Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) was commissioned at the Haryana State Water Testing Laboratory situated in the city of Karnal. This piece of laboratory equipment will help detect the traces of pesticide in water resources.

Approximately, 1200 water resources including tubewells and borewells across the State will be tested and analysed in its first phase. This will assist in checking the canal & ground water contamination and also give time for remedial actions as a follow up.

The second phase will also include private testing of water samples across the State of Haryana.

Water pollution is a big concern in the State of Haryana due to the increase in industrial activities and owing to the haphazard use of pesticides in the agriculture sector. Further, this will keep a check on the pesticidal contamination in drinking water. It is claimed that around 10% samples are found to be contaminated, which raises a health concern for the people residing in the State.

State Water Testing Laboratories have been established at every District of the State.
