Tomato prices soured by 75%

Updated on: 11 July, 2019 4:25 PM IST By: KJ Staff

Tomato prices all over India have reached new heights ranging from Rs. 85- 105, which once were around Rs. 25. Cooler weather suits bests for the standing crop. But the early arrival of monsoon has impacted the crop for the worst. The main producers of tomato in India are : Karnataka, Maharastra, Gujrat, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. Among which, Maharastra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujrat are facing flood like situations with over 5% excess rainfall in the regions. Prices are also quoted to be higher due to the short supply of tomatoes in the market because of less sowing this season due to low prices the previous year. Exports are also impacted as domestic prices are higher as compared to the prices available with international traders.
