Advantages and Disadvantages of Drinking Lemon Water

We all like Lemon water...Isn’t it? Many people start their day with lemon water instead of tea or coffee. There is no doubt that lemons are delicious, but does adding them to water make you healthier? Much of the proof supporting lemon water’s health benefits is unreliable. Many studies have been done specifically on lemon water, but they talk about the benefits of lemon and water separately.

Benefits of Drinking lemon (lime) water:-

Hydrates Body

According to the Food and Nutrition Board, general instructions say that women should intake at least 91 ounces per day and men should get at least 125 ounces. It includes water from food and drinks Water is one of the best beverages for hydration, but some people don’t like the taste of it on its own. Adding lemon intensify water’s flavor, which may help you drink more.

Good source of Vitamin C

Citrus fruits like lemons which are high in vitamin C, a primary antioxidant that helps to protect cells from damaging free radicals. You’ve heard that vitamin C helps in preventing or limiting the duration of the common cold in some people, but studies are quarreling on it.

Vitamin C may also help in reducing  your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, and lower blood pressure. Lemons are not on the top of the list of citrus fruits which are high in vitamin C, but they’re still a good source.

Helps in Weight Loss

Polyphenol antioxidant which is found in lemons remarkably reduces weight gain in mice that are overfed in order to persuade obesity. While the same outcome needs to be proven in humans, unreliable evidence is strong that lemon water supports weight loss. Whether this is due to people straightforwardly drinking more water and feeling full or the lemon juice itself is unclear.

It improves skin quality

Skin wrinkling; dry skin from aging and damage from the sun can be reduced by Vitamin C which is found in lemons. How water improves skin is debate, but one thing is sure that if your skin loses moisture, it becomes dry and which is prone to wrinkles.

It helps in digestion

Some people drink lemon water as a daily morning cathartic to help prevent constipation. Drinking warm lemon water when you wake up in the morning may help get your digestive system moving. Ayurvedic medicine says that the sour lemon helps stimulate your “agni.”

It prevents kidney stones

The citric acid present in lemons helps to prevent kidney stones. Citrate, which is a component of citric acid, contradictory makes urine less acidic and may even break up small stones. Drinking lemon water not only intake you citrate, but also the water you need to help prevent or flush out stones.

Side effects (disadvantages) of drinking lemon water

Lemon water is normally safe to drink, but there are a few possible side effects to be aware of.

  • Lemon contains citric acid, which may abrade tooth enamel.

  • The citric acid may cause heartburn in some people.

  • Some people report more frequent prance to the bathroom when drinking lemon water.

Lemon water recipe

When you are making lemon water, always use fresh lemons .

To make lemon water, squeeze half a lemon into a glass of warm or cold water. To make the drink as healthy, use filtered water and organic lemons.

Brew more flavor or add a health boost to lemon water by adding:

  • Few springs of mint

  • Spoon of maple syrup or raw honey

  • Slice of fresh ginger

  • Dash of cinnamon

Having lemon ice cubes is a great way to add lemon to your water fast. Simply squash fresh lemon juice into ice cube trays and freeze it. Drop a few cubes into a glass of cold water as needed.
