For maximum benefits, experts recommend eating at least one to two eggs per day. but, according to the latest study, eating too many eggs can lead to diabetes!
Most of us love to have eggs in our breakfast as it is not only delicious but also very healthy for our body. For maximum benefits, experts recommend eating at least one to two eggs per day. However, according to a recent study, eating too many eggs can lead to diabetes!
According to the study, eating one or more eggs per day (equivalent to 50 grams) increased the risk of diabetes by 60%, with the effect being stronger in women than in men. The study (1991 to 2009) led by the University of South Australia is the first to assess egg consumption in a large sample of Chinese adults. It was conducted in collaboration with the China Medical University and Qatar University. Diabetes is becoming a growing concern, according to Ming Li, an epidemiologist, and public health expert.
Ming Li said, “It is difficult to understand the range of dietary factors that could influence the disease’s rising prevalence because the diet is a known and modifiable factor in the onset of Type 2 diabetes.” In recent decades, China has experienced a significant nutritional transition, with many people shifting from a traditional diet of grains and vegetables to a more processed diet that includes more meat, snacks, and energy-dense foods.
In a paper, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, he said “Simultaneously, egg consumption has risen steadily; from 1991 to 2009, the number of people eating eggs in China nearly doubled.”
Further he says, "What we found was that higher long-term egg consumption (greater than 38 grammes per day) increased the risk of diabetes by about 25% among Chinese adults. Adults who consumed more than 50 grammes of eggs per day (equivalent to one egg) had a 60% increased risk of diabetes.”
The best way to eat eggs is to boil them and serve them with salt, pepper, and coriander leaves on top. Alternatively, two eggs can be used to make a vegetable Omelette.
To avoid the negative effects of eating eggs, make sure you eat them in moderation. Also, when making a dish with eggs, avoid using too much butter, oil, or cheese, and instead rely on the nutritional value of eggs.
