Almonds and its Oil

Almond oils are of two types: sweet almond oil and bitter almond oil. Now you would be wondering what’s the difference between the two?  Which one is better?

Starting with the sweet almond oil- is derived from a type of almond tree, scientifically called Prunus amygdalus var. Dulcis. Almonds from this tree do not contain toxic chemicals.

Bitter almond oil is derived from another type of almond tree, scientifically called Prunus amygdulus var Amara Bitter oil can be toxic.

Nutrients of almond oil

Sweet almond oil contains four essential nutrients:

  • Vitamin A

  • Vitamin E

  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids

  • Zinc

Benefits of each nutrient

  • Vitamin A: It promotes generation of new skin cells. This helps to reduce fine lines on skin and makes it look younger.

  • Vitamin E: This vitamin gives the oil its antioxidant property, which fights free radicals and reduces cell damage due to UV radiation and free radicals.

  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids: It helps to prevent premature aging of the skin.

  • Zinc: It helps to heal scars on the skin.

Cold-pressed sweet almond oil

Almonds are nutrient-rich. They contain Vitamins A and E, proteins, essential fatty acids, and minerals like zinc, magnesium, copper, phosphorus, and potassium.

The benefit of cold-pressed oil is that it uses no heat, hence, retains the nutrients of almonds. Heat generally destroys most of the nutrients.

Cold pressing is done by pressing almonds with a steel press and extracting the oil.

So, if you were confused between sweet and bitter oil and cold-pressed oil, we hope your confusion is over now. Please know what type of oil you are using, as bitter almond oil can be toxic. For application on skin and hair, use sweet almond oil. Nourish your hair and skin with the goodness of this dry fruit and watch yourselves glow with health and beauty.
