Spine Gourd or spiny gourd has many names, which include, Kantola, bristly balsam pear, teasle gourd, and prickly carolaho. It is a flowering plant of the Cucurbitaceae/gourd family. Spine gourd is consumed as a vegetable all over India and some regions of South Asia. It is used locally and also exported. 

The spine gourd is round and oval. It is small, dark green colored, and has spikes all over it. It is also known as a monsoon vegetable and has low-calorie content. It is known as one of the most powerful vegetables due to the numerous health benefits it offers.
