Beta-carotene, which is believed to improve the immune system and eyesight, is an antioxidant that turns into vitamin A in our body. They're virtually free of fat and low in calories, but high in sugar. They're filled with potassium and B6 vitamins which makes them perfect for your heart. They are also believed to be foods that decrease blood pressure levels naturally and to slow your pulse. You may not have realized this, but sweet potatoes provide fantastic benefits of beauty. Vitamin A serves as a natural anti-inflammatory that can help to get rid of acne-causing bacteria.

A popular street snack in India is sweet potatoes steamed and spiked with a bit of lime juice and chaat masala. From the inside out, their creamy texture warms you up. This super food, filled with plenty of flavor and nutrients, will easily enchant you with its simplicity. The great thing about sweet potatoes is that they are very flexible and don't take long to prepare. Roast them, roast them, fry them, bake them or just steam them. In salads, soups and even as sides, they are fine.

Sweet potato production dates back to 750 BC and has been recognized as one of the oldest crops known to man. Spanish and Portuguese explorers are thought to have brought these potatoes to the Asians.

Top 5 Sweet Potato Recipes

Here are top 5 recipes that will remind you that sweet potatoes certainly have more than chaat, salads, or soups:

1. Cold Sweet Potato Soup: It will please the senses with a subtle sweet soup with heavy flavors of sweet potatoes, cashews and pineapple. This cold soup incorporates some of Goa's favorite foods, including the ubiquitous cashew, and is suitable for a sunny summer afternoon.

Recipe: Melt butter over medium-low heat in a skillet. Attach the onion and stir-fry until tender, stirring regularly. Stir in the garlic and sauté for an extra two minutes. Combine the pineapple, the carrot, the vegetable supply, the urrak, the cream, the salt, and the pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to mild, and simmer until the potatoes are tender, for 15 minutes. Cook it until creamy, in a blender or food processor.  Chill and Strain and serve it with garnished coriander leaves.

2. Black Sesame Caramelized Sweet Potatoes: here comes a dessert made of sweet potatoes, caramel and black sesame seeds. This dish provides a flavor that lingers on the palette, refreshing and a perfect way to end a tasty meal. Sweet potatoes tossed with black sesame seeds and soy caramel. 

Recipe: Add the oil in a pan and fried the sweet potato cubes until golden brown and then keep it aside. Add soy sauce, water and sugar to the deep bottom of the pan. Cook until the sugar has dissolved. Keep stirring constantly until the hue of the syrup is light brown. Add the fried sweet potatoes. Cook until they're well coated. Add the seeds of the black sesame. Garnish with some slices of kiwi or other fruit of your choosing. Toss well. Just serve.

3. Sweet Potato Fries with a special Amla dip: This one is a great snack for winter. Thinly cut sweet potatoes dipped in a tasty batter and fried untill crispy.  A special dip made of jalepenos, basil, shallots and amla is eaten. ⠀

Recipe: Wash the sweet potatoes first. In a bowl of chilled water, slice it fairly thin. Whisk all the ingredients in a stainless steel or glass bowl for the batter. To dredge the sweet potatoes, set aside some of the rice and corn flour combined with salt, pepper, Mexican chili powder and oregano. Drain and pat the sweet potato dry.

Dredge them with a mixture of flour, dip them in a batter, and cook them deep in hot oil. In a tub, mix all the ingredients for the dip together. Chill it and serve with fries.

4. Sweet Potato Rice: A perfect recipe to pack in the lunch box or the kid's. It is a simple way to add sweet potatoes rich in vitamins to your diet.

Recipe: In a pan, heat oil. Connect the garlic and fry until slightly dark brown. Add salt and sweet potatoes and fry until half fried. Add the chili powder and ginger juice and cook thoroughly. Add spring onion and blend thoroughly. Add the cooked rice and blend well. Turn it off, then serve it warm.

5. Recipe for Sweet Potato and Quinoa Bowl: A simple, one-pot meal of sweet potatoes, coconut nuts and quinoa to cook when you're too lazy.

Recipe: In a kadhai, heat the oil. Add the onion and bay leaves, and fry until the onion is translucent. Add the cayenne, garlic, roasted sweet potato and coconut. Fry well before the coconut comes out with a good fragrance. When the cashews are brown in colour, add raisins/cranberries, cashew nut and fry. Combine well and fry for 5 more minutes.

Mix and mix together with the cooked quinoa. For 3 minutes, keep it on a medium flame. Turn off and enjoy it with your families.
