Health Benefits of Star Anise: Secret Weapon in the Kitchen!

But first, let's step outside the kitchen for a minute - did you know that the humble Star Anise (Illicium Verum) is one of the key ingredients responsible for stopping influenza epidemics around the world? Well, yes! Over 90% of the world’s crop of Star Anise is used in the production of influenza medication. Star anise contains a chemical compound called Shikimik Acid that is used to produce Tamiflu, a globally patented drug that helps fight outbreaks of swine flu and other epidemics worldwide.

Improves Digestive System 

Consuming star anise infused tea stimulates the metabolic enzymes. The concoction is an excellent remedial cure for indigestion, constipation, and other digestion related problems.

Star anise helps in tackling a common fungal infection - Candida albicans, which is marked by overgrowth of fungus in the mouth, genital areas, throat and intestine.

Try this Recipe - Immunity Boosting Concoction 

Drinking a cup of soothing star-anise infused tea regularly will be a healthy choice. Try this easy recipe. Take: 

  • 2 cups water

  • 3 tea bags (unflavored tea)

  • 4 star anise

  • 3 inch cinnamon stick

  • 3 tablespoons honey

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

In a medium saucepan bring water to boiling. Add tea bags, anise, and cinnamon stick. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 3 to 5 minutes. Discard tea bags and cinnamon stick. Stir in honey and lemon juice.
