How to Make Wine at Home?

Ingredients Needed: Two litres of grape juice, two cups of sugar, one teaspoon of dry yeast, two cloves, two green cardamoms, and one teaspoon of whole wheat grains (optional).

Process of making wine at home:

  • Pour grape juice into a large glass container.

  • Make careful you use a large container; the juice should not fill it more than 3/4 of the way. There needs to be ample space for fermentation.

  • A wooden spatula should be used to combine the sugar. Never mix with a metal spoon.

  • Add the dry yeast and carefully mix it.

  • Add the cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon stick now. This gives the wine a great spice flavour and aroma. You can avoid the spicy flavours if you don't like them.

  • Add whole wheat grains last, then mix well.

  • Put a kitchen towel over the jar's mouth and then close properly to seal it. To make sure the jar is airtight, this is done. The wine could crack during fermentation if it is kept in an airtight container. Even a container with a cork works.

  • You could even put a kitchen towel on the glass container's mouth and tie a string around it to keep it there.

How to ferment the wine?

  • Keep the canister in a cold, dark place for at least 11 days to allow for fermentation. A cloth can also be used to cover it.

  • Ensure that you open the container each day and give it a little stir with a wooden spoon at the same time each day. The wine can sour if you don't stir it.

  • On the twelfth day, strain the wine into wine bottles, then cork or screw the tops on.

  • You can now drink your homemade fruit wine.

  • After 12 days, you'll get a hazy wine that not only tastes delicious but also has a sweet smell.

  • If you want wine that is clearer, you can keep the wine bottles in storage for longer. The wine's texture will change over time to become.

Things to keep in mind when you are making wine at home:

  • Make sure to always stir the wine with a wooden spoon. Using a metal spoon could cause the wine's yeast to react.

  • Glass containers should always be used to ferment wine. Containers made of any other material won't work as well.

  • Make sure all of your containers and other equipment are sanitised before starting the technique. Before using them, you can thoroughly clean the wine bottles with a mild dishwashing liquid that you can get by the bottle.

  • You can exclude whole wheat grains if you prefer mild wine. Only whole wheat grains are added to the wine.
