Big News! Corteva Agriscience to Boost Influence in Cottonseed Market

Phytogen was founded in 1980 by the J.G. Boswell, with an aim to target U.S. cottonseed market. The company became a leading cotton seed company, with a reputation of helping farmers by providing best varieties of cotton.  

On 30^th June, 2020 Corteva Agriscience signed an agreement with J.G. Boswell Company to purchase its ownership in PhytoGen Seed Company, LLC – a joint venture between two companies. 

James C. Collins, Junior CEO Corteva Agriscience, said “This acquisition provides a solid proof point of our consistent commitment to driving long-term growth through targeted investments in solid margin opportunities that at the same time strengthen our ability to serve our customers”.  

“With this action, we intend to build on the strong foundation we established with J.G. Boswell Company over the last two decades – continuing to serve cotton customers with our growing global portfolio of leading cottonseed products,” said Steve Reno, President, Seed Business Platform. He further added, “This step further strengthens Corteva Agriscience’s commitment to the cotton market – and positions the Company well to diversify and grow this business globally over time.” 

In 2018, the pioneer of Corteva agriscience launched a new global seed brand- Brevant^TM in the Show Rural Coopavel (Farm Show), at Cascavel, Brazil. Brevant^TM brand products were available in a wide range of crops like corn, soyabean and wheat. But, with this acquisition, the company may now try to take over the cotton seed market. 

With in-plant protection against cotton diseases and pests, PhytoGen Breeding Traits helps in increasing yields and improves the fiber quality, of cotton. It also provides more options for unrivalled productivity against tough to control and resistant weeds. 

With this acquisition, the Corteva Agriscience will become the sole owner of the intellectual property of PhytoGen Seed Company, LLC.
