IG International Installs Solar PV Project for Bangalore Cold Storages; Aims to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

In addition to providing fresh, high-quality fruits India’s largest fresh fruit importer IG International is now working towards ecologically sustainable operations. With an aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it has announced the installation of a new 150 kWp Net Metering Rooftop Solar PV Project that will power its cold storage facilities in Bangalore. The solar project will produce 2, 10, 000 units of electricity per annum, helping the firm save about a whopping Rs. 21.63 lac per year.

With an aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it has announced the installation of a new 150 kWp Net Metering Rooftop Solar PV Project that will power its cold storage facilities in Bangalore. The solar project will produce 2, 10, 000 units of electricity per annum, helping the firm save about a whopping Rs. 21.63 lac per year. 

Tarun Arora, Director, IG International, said, “We at IG International are committed to practicing as well as promoting environmental stewardship. Greenhouse gases are the main factors driving climate change, which is one of the biggest challenges faced by humanity today. With mounting research showing how climate change will have bad effects on our world, we decided to do our bit to mitigate the damages and contribute to a sustainable future.” 

“The estimated lifespan of the solar project is 25 years and it doesn’t need much maintenance. While we did invest Rs. 66 lakhs in this project, the payback period is just 2.5 years with 40 percent IRR (Internal Rate of Return),” he added.

The company has cold storages and wholesale outlets pan-India in cities including Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Pune, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, Cochin, Patna, and Nagpur.
