Mahindra Agri Solutions Ltd, a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., part of the USD 20.7 billion Mahindra Group has recently felicitated 11 farmers in Nashik (Maharashtra) for their contribution towards setting high field productivity and quality standards for export oriented grapes.
The farmers were felicitated by Mr. Corné van de Klundert, MD, Origin Fruit Direct, Mr. Geoff Green, Head, Capespan Global Procurement, Mr. Ashok Sharma MD and CEO, Mahindra Agri Solutions Ltd., Mr. Kobus Bothma, Agronomist, South Africa and the senior management team of Mahindra.
The efforts of these farmers ensure that Mahindra’s products fulfil stringent food safety norms of the European Union countries and the United Kingdom. They also guarantee the supply of the highest quality standard grapes to new markets such as China, Canada and Malaysia and add to the goodwill and brand image of India in foreign countries.
Around 1,200 farmers assembled to celebrate their long association with Mahindra Agri Solutions Ltd. and congratulate those who have achieved significantly higher standards of product quality, with high volume exports to EU destinations.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Sharma, MD & CEO, Mahindra Agri Solutions Ltd., said, “At MASL, we are working with around 1,000 farmers in Maharashtra who are dedicated to improving productivity and the quality of grapes through various agronomy interventions. We are committed to Farming 3.0, the new age of farming that covers a range of new and advanced techniques to elevate the entire agri-ecosystem and target those opportunities that are financially beneficial to farmers. We will continue to encourage the farming fraternity with such felicitations”.
Mahindra has tied up with a South African Consultant for three years to work on soil and water management to improve quality and productivity. The company has also opened a new state of the art packhouse facility to ensure that the post-harvest management of grapes is efficient and quality is maintained till it reaches the customer. Further, through the company’s flagship ‘Khet se Khaliyan Tak’ (KSKT) agronomy initiative, it has helped farmers increase their productivity by around 36% in the last four years.
MASL’s success in this industry can be attributed to its relentless efforts in reaching out to farmers and solving their pains, by providing technical support to enhance productivity and the quality of grapes. To strengthen the business connect and improve yields of exportable grapes, MASL started the ‘Khet Se KhaliyanTak’ (KSKT) initiative to check the application of various chemicals, such as fertilizers, pesticides, and growth regulators, as per the approved package of practices. This initiative has not only helped farmers in improving their output but also in meeting severe European food safety standards.
