John Deere India, a Pune-based domestic subsidiary of the world's largest manufacturer of tractors and CE Vehicles, has recently been awarded a BS-V certification for one of its engines. The certification is rewarded for the engine named 3029 EWX. The company has managed to receive the certification ahead of the implementation of the emission norms for tractors and construction equipment.

Talking about the certification, Mukul Varshney, Director for Public Affairs, John Deere India says, "We have received the BS-V certification for our 3029 EWX engine from the Automotive Research Association of India. We have obtained it much ahead of April 2024 deadline for meeting the BS-V emission norms for the vehicles in the segment".

The company manufactures agri-machinery like tractors, road construction equipment, and harvesters. Its engine production capacity as of now around 1 lakh annually. The BS-V certification is considered to be the first certification for road construction equipment.

The BS-V standards will be rolled out in the year 2024. The standard covers a wider range of engines ranging from those smaller than 8 kW to those larger than 560 kW. It will also introduce PN (particulate number) limits for certain engines.
