Revitalizing Agriculture: FMC Corporation Signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Ukrainian Govt
Memorandum of Cooperation signifies a major step forward in supporting Ukraine's economic recovery and establishing a sustainable agricultural sector that meets the country's food security needs.
FMC Corporation and its Ukraine subsidiary, FMC Ukraine, have joined forces with the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy to support the recovery of the Ukrainian economy. The collaborative effort was formalized through a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed on June 22 during the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023. The focus of this partnership will be on revitalizing the agricultural sector.
The MoC outlines four key areas of cooperation: food security, innovation, farmer's safety, and knowledge transfer and capacity building. In terms of food security, FMC and the Ministry have pledged to promote the productivity of Ukrainian agriculture to ensure a stable supply of food. This includes providing Ukrainian farmers with priority access to the latest crop protection technologies that enhance the productivity of major crops such as corn, grains, and fruits.
Ensuring the safety of farmers is another vital aspect of the partnership. FMC and the Ministry will work together to support efforts that allow farmers to resume operations on their land safely. This will involve implementing measures to minimize risks and hazards in agricultural practices.
Moreover, the collaboration aims to enhance knowledge transfer and capacity building within the agricultural workforce. FMC plans to work closely with Ukrainian academic institutions to support the reconstruction of the agricultural sector. This includes implementing programs that ensure gender equity in agriculture, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.
Sebastià Pons, FMC Vice President and President of Europe, Middle East, and Africa, expressed his pride in the long-term commitment to Ukraine's agriculture sector. He emphasized the significance of the agreement, as it represents a major milestone in FMC's support for Ukrainian food production. Pons further highlighted that the company's commitment to long-term technology investment in the country not only aids the growth of Ukraine's agriculture sector but also strengthens food security in Ukraine and around the world.
In addition to its commitment to agriculture, FMC has dedicated 3% of its revenues generated in Ukraine in 2023 to support The HALO Trust organization. This funding will contribute to demining farms and farming communities throughout Ukraine, ensuring the safety and well-being of farmers.
