The CEO of Syngenta Erik Fyrwald during his two-day visit to the country said providing food to the growing population of India as well as the world was a big challenge and further it needs to be done in a sustainable manner, without damaging or harming the environment.
Fyrwald said, “In India, we aim to transfer latest innovation in the hands of the growers to improve production in important crops like rice, vegetables, corn, wheat & cotton”.
He added that “We intend to teach farmers modern farming methods with minimal use of pesticides. We also have employed the use of digital tools like drones to help detect pests to prevent any damage to the crops”.
The Company was addressing the problem and providing innovative solutions to the farmers. He told that reducing the use of chemical pesticide and fertiliser, without bringing down the production, was another huge challenge and Syngenta had largely succeeded in the endeavour.
According to report, a seed care institute will be set up at Bhimadolu that would offer customised solutions to the farmers of the country. Chief Officer of Syngenta India, Dr. K.C Ravi said the company will also focus on women engaged in various types of agricultural activities. Syngenta has chosen Andhra Pradesh as it was one of the most important agricultural states in India.
Syngenta, which is based in Basel, Switzerland, is a global company that produces agro-chemicals & seeds. In India, the Company has set up its headquarters in Pune.
