TVS Motor Company, a leading manufacturer of two-wheelers and three-wheelers Sundaram-Clayton Ltd, an aluminum and magnesium casting provider, has announced a contribution of Rs 30 crore to support the nationwide efforts towards the fight against COVID-19. Sundaram-Clayton Ltd is a Chennai based TVS Group Company.

"This is an unprecedented crisis that requires all of us to cooperate and support each other as a nation. Our priority is to help the government efforts to contain and mitigate the effects of this pandemic. We will continue to do what we can for the community and people, as we have done in our 100-year history,’’ said Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company.

The money will be invested in making and supplying 1 Million protective face masks for essential service providers. Other than this, it will also be used in deploying vehicles and disinfectants to municipalities and helping produce medical equipment. Employing factory kitchens at the manufacturing units in Hosur, Padi, and Mysuru to make pre-packed cooked meals will also be one of the aims. These will be supplied to all essential care workers in the vicinity, from police personnel, municipal staff to healthcare workers.

Apart from this, in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, dry rations will be supplied to daily wage workers who have been displaced and to villagers without food supplies. The company is looking to collaborate with 3D printing companies to make ventilators to support the hospitals.

Srinivasan Services Trust (SST) will be the source of funding for spending. It is the social arm of TVS Motor Company and Sundaram-Clayton Ltd. The first phase of the program has been initiated with SST supplying 10 tractors fitted with disinfectant spray along with about 30 personnel to the Hosur Municipal Corporation in Tamil Nadu, and municipalities in Krishnagiri and Mysuru. The villages and streets in these towns are being sprayed with disinfectant.  SST will also manufacture and distribute 1 million face masks to those delivering essential services from food supplies to healthcare.
