UPL’s Unit 2 at Ankleshwar Receives ‘National Energy Conservation Award’ from President

The National Energy Conservation Award honors organizations for their admirable efforts in promoting sustainable development and energy conservation. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency was in charge of organizing the event (Under the Ministry of Power, Government of India).

The National Energy Conservation Award honors organizations for their admirable efforts in promoting sustainable development and energy conservation.

UPL Ltd. on Monday announced that its Unit 2 at Ankleshwar, Gujarat was conferred with the ‘National Energy Conservation Award’ by President of India Droupadi Murmu. Unit 2 at Ankleshwar, bagged first place for its exemplary contribution towards energy conservation in the field of agriculture.

The National Energy Conservation Award honors organizations for their admirable efforts in promoting sustainable development and energy conservation. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency was in charge of organizing the event (Under the Ministry of Power, Government of India). Deepak Kumar Garg (Unit Head, Unit-02) and Vikas Garg (Head - AI Manufacturing India) attended the event as representatives of UPL and accepted the award.

Raj Tiwari, global head of supply chain at UPL, “We are both honored and grateful to have received the prestigious award. It is evidence of our continuous efforts to promote energy efficiency and energy conservation. We're determined to keep working in the chemical industry. This award motivates us to work even harder toward UPL's purpose of reimagining sustainability in the agricultural sector and upholding our duty to farmers and the earth as a whole.”

The use of AFR (Advance Flow Reactor Technology), Spin flash dryer (SFD) heat integration with cooling water & heat, Installation of Back Pressure Turbine in place of Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV), Energy Efficient Cooling Tower Fans, Mechanical Vapour Recompression System for RO Reject, Low-grade heat utilization by absorption based steam pump, and Steam reduction by Spin flash dryer heat are some of the significant initiatives taken by UPL's Unit 2 towards energy conservation.

In accordance with its dedication to the environment, UPL has formed a partnership with CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions ('CleanMax'), a renewable energy firm with headquarters in Mumbai to build a hybrid solar-wind energy power plant in Gujarat, India.

This project will allow UPL to expand its use of renewable energy to 30% of its total worldwide power consumption (up from 8% today) by combining two of the renewable energy technologies that are growing the fastest. 1.25 lakh tonnes of CO2 equivalent will be reduced in carbon dioxide emissions annually as a result of the captive project.
