Virtual Forest, a prominent electronics design firm in India, has partnered with Navitas Semiconductor to introduce a cutting-edge solar-powered irrigation solution utilizing GaNFast™ power integrated circuits (IC) technology. This initiative marks a pivotal step in addressing the challenges faced by farmers reliant on traditional diesel-powered pumps or long-distance electrical setups.
Addressing the Need for Clean and Efficient Irrigation
For farmers worldwide, especially in remote areas, accessing water for irrigation demands powerful yet sustainable solutions. Traditional methods often involve diesel generators or costly electrical infrastructure. Virtual Forest's new solar pump, equipped with Navitas' GaNFast™ technology, offers an innovative alternative. This 3 hp (2,250W) pump operates independently with solar panels and energy storage, providing clean, reliable, and cost-effective irrigation solutions directly at the point of need.
Key Features of Virtual Forest's Solar Pump
The Virtual Forest solar pump integrates maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology, ensuring optimal energy utilization from solar panels. It features IoT connectivity, enabling remote monitoring and control with minimal power consumption. Capable of pumping over 50 gallons of water per minute to a height exceeding 90 feet, this system can effectively water up to 3 acres of farmland, aiding in the production of approximately 10 tonnes of wheat.
Leveraging Navitas' GaNFast™ Technology
Navitas Semiconductor's GaNFast™ power ICs play a crucial role in the efficiency and performance of Virtual Forest's solar pump. The GaNSense™ half-bridge power ICs offer integrated features such as GaN power FETs, drivers, and protection mechanisms, optimizing energy use and reducing component count. This results in 3x to 5x energy savings compared to legacy silicon IGBTs, making the system more environmentally friendly and economically viable.
