Yara International to Guarantee Income Security for its Employees and Contractors amid Coronavirus

A globally-renowned agricultural products manufacturer, Yara International announces that it will pay all the payable sick leave and will guarantee full pay for three months in case of temporary layoffs. 

According to a report, Svein Tore Holsether, President & CEO of Yara International, said, “As a responsible employer and participant in society, we must limit the damages this pandemic can cause in vulnerable communities. Yara, therefore, takes the responsibility to protect the lives and livelihoods of our workforce from sudden drops in pay as a result of the current situation.” 

Yara International has a global outreach and has its operation in more than 60 countries and governmental support. Some countries have well-established social security systems, but there are many others where there is a lack of security. To address this uncertainty, Yara has taken some concrete measures and is about to introduce global guidelines for income security. 

“As a responsible employer and participant in society, we must limit the damages this pandemic can cause in vulnerable communities,” added the President. 

As per the guidelines, the payment for three months of salary will be secured without any required reduction in manning, sick leave and special leave due to the COVID-19 crisis for all the employees. The guidelines will also secure contractors that are working full-time in daily operations and are essential in keeping the business running. 

There has not been any significant change or disruption in the company’s operations, and it hasn’t announced or planned layoffs yet. “It is in everyone’s interest to limit the negative long-term effects of the crisis, and the support offered in communities with limited safety nets will help ensure business continuity post-crisis when the situation and operations are back to normal”, Holsether further added.
