100 Districts in Rural India Receive Tap Water Under Jal Jeevan Mission

Jal Jeevan Mission: Jal Jeevan Mission reached a significant milestone by supplying tap water to every home in 100 districts throughout the country. Chamba, in Himachal Pradesh, has been designated as the 100th 'Har Ghar Jal' district, the initiative's sixth aspirational district. Earlier this week, the project reached the milestone of providing clean tap water to nine crore rural families.

More Than 5.78 Crore Rural Households Received Tap Water Since 2019

"A promise made by our government is now a reality in 100 districts across the country, from the arid to the remotest parts," Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Twitter.

It has delivered tap water to more than 5.78 crore rural households since the 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal' scheme was announced on August 15, 2019. According to an official statement, only 3.23 crore (17 percent) of the country's 19.27 crore households had tap water connections when the Mission was announced.

100 districts, 1,138 blocks, 66,328 Gram Panchayats, and 1,36,803 villages have become 'Har Ghar Jal' in this short time, according to the report. 

Every rural home in Goa, Haryana, Telangana, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu have access to tap water. Many more states, including Punjab (99%) and Himachal Pradesh (92.5%), Gujarat (92%) and Bihar (90%), are on the verge of becoming 'Har Ghar Jal' by 2022.

Every rural home gets access to drinking water in sufficient amount and of required quality on a regular and long-term basis, resulting in an improvement in rural communities' living conditions. The mission of Jal Jeevan is to help, empower, and facilitate. The Mission's broad goals are to deliver FHTC to every rural family.

Prioritize the provision of FHTCs in quality-affected areas, villages in drought-prone and desert areas, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) villages, and other villages, as well as provide functional tap connections to schools, anganwadi centres, GP buildings, health centres, wellness centres, and community buildings.
