10.67 lakh ha lesser sown area in Kharif 2018

The total sown area as on 22nd June 2018, as per reports received from Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer welfare, stands at 115.90 lakh hectare as compared to 128.35 lakh hectare at this time last year.

The total sown area as on 22nd June 2018, as per reports received from Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer welfare, stands at 115.90 lakh hectare as compared to 128.35 lakh hectare at this time last year.

The differences stand at 10 lakh ha than what was sown this time last year.  It is reported that rice has been sown/transplanted in 10.67 lakh ha , which was sown in 11.17 lakh ha, earlier this year.

Pulses, Oilseed and Cotton  are the few Kharif commodities which have seen marginal difference in the sowing for current year. Pulses covers 5.91 lakh ha, with a difference of 1.91 lakh ha. Oilseeds witnessed a broad difference of 4.9 lakh ha which dropped to 5.03 which earlier was sown in 9.93 lakh ha.  Other crop including coarse cereals, cotton and rice underwent difference of 1.65, 4.20 and 0.5 lakh ha respectively.

The area covered is supposed to increase in the course of time. Rain is predicted to be normal and hence the area sown and the productivity is supposed to be customary.
