54 Haryana Mandis linked with e-NAM

The Union government with a view to double the farmers’ income is taking several steps like paying 1.5 times the cost of cultivation borne by them and providing online National Agriculture Market (NAM) platform, said Ashok Dalwai, CEO of National Rainfed Area Authority. He informed that recently 54 mandis of Haryana have been linked with e-NAM.

Speaking at the World Union of Wholesale Markets Conference in Gurugram, Dalwai said that e-NAM was implemented in the country two years back, to enable the farmers to sell their produce at competitive prices in any of the allied mandis. This proved successful as the business worth Rs 50,000 crore has been done so far through this platform.

Dalwai also informed that more than 1.19 crore farmers, 1.18 lakh merchants, 66,000 commission agents and 383 farmer producer organizations of 20 states were linked with e-NAM. Moreover, around 585 mandis and 90 commodities have been registered on e-NAM, he added.

CEO, National Centre for Cold Chain Development, Pawanexh Kohli on his turn said that in order to encourage cold storage units in India, arrangements were being made to simplify rules and grant subsidy.
