Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare in a press release dated Jan 4 stated that 585 wholesale regulated markets have been integrated with e-NAM , the National Agriculture Market in 16 States and 2 Union Territories. Uttar Pradesh has the largest number of such mandis, which add to 100 followed by Gujarat which has 79.
The states that look forward to integrate with the e-NAM are expected to carry out marketing reforms in their Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act. The three reforms are single point levy of mandi fee, unified trade license valid across all mandis of State and provision of e-auction. Based on state priorities, states are then required to send their proposals to be considered by GOI.
Appropriate physical infrastructure, provisions required for e-trading on e-NAM platform including registration of traders and farmers must be ensured by the states. Mandi integration with GOI is an ongoing process and the government is pursuing states to propose their market integration after fulfilling prerequisites.
