The Centre's proposed increase in DA, however, is subject to the Labor Bureau's release of the AICPI-IW data.

Government employees in some states have received an Independence Day bonanza this month, even though Central government employees and pensioners are still awaiting an increase in their Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). From Maharashtra to Tamil Nadu and from Chhattisgarh to Gujarat, government employees had a significant increase in their dearness allowance this month, which was followed by a pay raise.

On the other hand, the Central Government raised the DA/DR of the government workers by the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations. The Centre's proposed increase in DA, however, is subject to the Labor Bureau's release of the AICPI-IW data. According to media rumors, the Centre's DA increase should be announced soon. Here are the states where the DA/DR boost in August has already benefited workers.

3% DA Hike by Maharashtra Government:

The dearness allowance (DA) for state employees in Maharashtra was increased by 3% this month. At a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the decision to increase the DA was made. As a result, the dearness allowance as a percentage of the base salary has been increased to 34%.

6% DA Hike by Chattisgarh Government:

On July 4th, the Chhattisgarh government announced a 6% increase in dearness allowance (DA), bringing it to 28% for state government employees. The most recent raise, according to the chief minister, will help at least 3.8 lakh state government employees.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), since May of this year, state government employees have been receiving DA of 22% under the 7th Pay Commission and 174% under the 6th Pay Commission. According to the order, subsequent revisions resulted in increases of 6% and 15% for the 7th and 6th Pay Commissions, respectively.

From August 1 of this year, state government employees would receive 28% and 189% DA. However, the increase will cost the exchequer an additional Rs 2,160 crore annually.

3% DA Hike by Gujarat Government:

On August 15, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced a 3% increase in the dearness allowance for public employees. It is estimated that around 9.38 lakh state government employees will profit from the hike in DA.
